Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women (KCIW)

I decided to job shadow the Warden, Vanessa Kennedy at the women's prison in Pewee Valley. Since I am not 18 I was not allowed to tour the Yard, but I was able to stay in the main building and take a virtual tour through the cameras. Vanessa introduced me to all the different departments in the main building and then we had the chance to have some fun. Since it was employee appreciation week the prison had set up games such as a dunking booth and ordered pizza. The prisoners made the employees brownies and decorated the visitors room. I plan to job shadow the warden again when I turn 18 so I have the chance to tour the yard and other parts of the facility.

PJ's College of Cosmetology

Even though I do not want to enroll in hair school I felt that shadowing my mother, the director, was an excellent opportunity. I decided to shadow her because she holds a leadership position at the school. Throughout the day I watched as she created lesson plans, met with students, filled out inventory lists, etc. As I said before I did not job shadow may mother to learn about hair design but instead to learn about being a teacher, or director. At the end of the day I decided that  being a teacher wasn't for me but being in charge was something I was interested in.

All Children's Pediatrics

I was scheduled to shadow a Pediatric Physician, Missy but ended up being able to job shadow one other doctor also, Dr. Kalehan. Before I was able to start shadowing I had to sign a HIPPA agree stating that I would not speak of anything I saw or heard with a patient during my job shadowing experience. While I was with Missy I was able to follow her into the exam room and watch as she preformed well check-ups on babies. Most patients I saw were newborns and they were receiving their first well check-up. With Dr.Kalehan I was able to go into the exam rooms and watch as she helped the sick patients. Dr. Kalehan and One thing I learned was the PEDS Chart, this chart was a way to score a child's development and screen for developmental issues. I also was able to meet one nurse practitioner student as well as two physician assistant students. I was able to talk to them about their programs and find out information on being a student in medical school. The nurse practitioner student showed me her "black book," which is a reference book for terms and more. I really enjoyed job shadowing at All Children Pediatrics, it was a very educational.

Common Wealth Commercial Real Estate

My aunt is a manager at Commonwealth Commercial Real Estate in Louisville, KY. While job shadowing she taught me how to draw out the floor plan of a building. We visited an old flea market mall and after sketching the floor plan, she then taught me how to draw the floor plan into 3D Home Architect. The last thing she taught me was how to use spreadsheets to send invoices and keep track of all the different properties she was in charge of.

Henry County Sheriff's Office

Law Enforcement has always been interesting to me, and because of this I decided shadowing a Police Officer would give me an opportunity to see if I would consider it for a career. Throughout the day I participated in a ride along with the Sheriff of Henry County. He showed me the proper way to pull over a speeding vehicle. I also go to experience searching for someone who had a warrant out for their arrest. I received a tour of the Sheriff's Office and was explained what each department's job was. At the end of the day, a police officer is not a career I am interested in.

A Day in the Life of a Marketing Director

My Notes:

  • Start the day checking emails and planning your day

  • Rebranding a company will lead to longer meeting due to the fact it takes more time to pay attention too all the little details

  • Keep a schedule and calendar full of tasks and meetings, don’t be afraid to move your schedule around. You can’t always plan how long a meeting will take

  • Videographer will help with promotion on social media platforms such as instagram and youtube

  • As a marketing director you will be tasked with creating a voice across social media platforms and website

  • A tool used in market management is google trends, this allows you to search a topic and see what customers think is trending

  • Another trick used is the trending tab in youtube

  • Most market directors will have a home office
